diy of the day: hanging succulent garden
growing up in a haitian house, lush potted plants hanging in the corners of every room was the norm. in fact, i’m pretty sure in any caribbean home across brooklyn, it was as ubiquitous as the grocery/laundry buggy and the beaded door curtain. i know these are all the rage among the hipster crowd now, but they really are a practical design solution for cramped city dwellers with green thumbs. use brightly colored cord, wooden beads and fun tassels to make yours unique. check out the easy-peasy tutorial [here]. classy, yea?! i  remember reading an article years ago about the wastefulness of the plastic drinking straw. they’re so small, but you can imagine how many of them end up in a dump each year. this is great alternative for daily use and entertaining guests at at home. and unlike the goofy swirly straws of our youth, these environmentally friendly drinking accessories are easily cleanable. sweet! this is beautiful.
