she calls it “foxy chocolate.” love her style. this is about as much animal print as i would let myself get away with. subtle. tasteful. discreet. love it.

another woman of style after my own heart. this is my fall uniform to the tee, likely in shades of brown and grey. i just invested in a few loud statement necklaces for a little dressing. but those shoes are the icing… ooowwweeee!

i love this line through and through.
yarn braids, you say?
i’d never heard of such a thing, but that’s got to be about the most ingenious idea i’ve had the delight of coming across! hot damn! i was just thinking i need to come up with a (cheap) protective style for my hair.
i wonder how healthy this would be for my hair, though. my strands and scalp soak up oil like a sponge, how would yarn affect my regular routine? also regular synthetic extensions (twists + box braid styles) leave my hair feeling more or less okay once i’ve taken them out, but they do a serious number on my scalp; would yarn extensions treat it differently? how good will they look on my very kinky hair after a month? or two?
lots of questions… anyone have the answers?

junkprints by chanel kennabrew
i’ve been a fan of chanel and her work at junkprints since her days on etsy. her clothing, accessories, and artwork is bright, blunt and yards ahead of what’s “in”. follow her on her dookieblog and check out her store at junkprints.com.
this right here might be the best thing since last weekend’s french toast victory. it’s not an entirely easy recipe, but i get the sense that it’ll be worth the trouble. from the ground spice cocktail (nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves… yummm!) to the candied pumpkin seeds, i’m looking forward to trying this as an excellent autumn brunch try.
also, if you don’t know about working class foodies, get hip! they have tons of video tutorials for creative and cheap recipes perfect for any event, holiday, or everyday meal. get to eatin’!
Pumpkin Waffles
It’s noon in New York…the perfect time for brunch!
These waffles are incredibly easy to make and so rich, thick, and tasty. The batter freezes well - just leave it on the counter overnight and it’ll be thawed out and ready to go in the morning for any upcoming holiday brunch.
And the candied pumpkin seeds on top are great on top of salads, omelets, and pasta, too. Add a little crushed hot pepper to the seeds and then crumble them on top of pumpkin-stuffed ravioli in a creamy butter sauce. Toss in a tablespoon of finely crumbled cooked bacon and some chopped up fresh rosemary for a savory snack. Melt in a little dark chocolate and some sea salt, then crush with a rolling pin for a decadent ice cream topping.
Welcome to fall.

andrea + sandy of paris most wanted. oh… to be french and effortlessly stylish. sandy’s fat braid fringe remind’s me of the coy young woman i posted a few days ago. i should attempt this.

DIY of the Day: All Natural Oil Cleansing Method
i’m a big fan of nicole of moptopmaven, particularly her hair and skin care posts. the girl knows her stuff and regularly doles out advice and tips that work even when they seem counterintuitive or radical. her latest posts have been centered around an idea so revolutionary that it seems unbelievable: the oil cleansing method.
i have the archetypal acne-prone combination skin (dry cheeks and chin with a classic oily t-zone) that’s very sensitive to the amount and quality of the food and liquid i consume, the change of seasons, my hormones, and just about anything else it seems. so this method seemed to go against common sense, but as she explains, this concept is far more sensible:
Oil will not
exasperateexacerbate your issues with acne if you are breakout prone. Sebum is a non-polar molecule which means it is unable to dissolve in polar molecules like water. This is why most facial cleansers, laundry detergent, soaps, and shampoo’s are formulated with harsh surfactants like Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This is a cheap, synthetic, man-made ingredient used to remove excess oils, dirt and sebum. When you clean your face with products that contain harsh surfactants, it strips your skin leaving it dry. As a result, your glands go into overproduction mode to make up for the lack of moisture. What you are left with is an endless cycle of dryness coupled with an overproduction of sebum.
The general rule of thumb in chemistry is that “like dissolves like”. Non-polar molecules are able to dissolve in non-polar solvents. Relating this to skincare, the oil in your cleansing mixture is able to dissolve excess oil and fatty deposits that are present in the pores and hair follicles of your skin. [source post]
with all that said, it works! i incorporated this method into my regular evening routine a week ago, using jojoba oil with few drops of tea tree and lavender oils. it feels great to indulge in a mini-facial nightly and my skin is in it’s best shape (presumably since i was a wee lass)! soft, supple, smooth, with infant pimples shriveling away and severe dry scaliness completely disappearing. i’m a total convert!
visit her blog for a how-to guide on creating your own custom oil cleanser for your skin type, as well as posts on identifying your skin type and which oils are best for you. good luck!
