Orgone | “Do Your Thing”
*It’s discovering gems like this right here that are making me so excited about this trip to Bonnaroo! LA-based funk band Orgone jump between soul funk, afrobeat, and house effortlessly. I am certain they are going to make me dance my ass off… yep, I’m a just gyrate ‘til my ass slides right down the back of my legs.
Rodrigo y Gabriela | ”Tacuna”
*I don’t know this duet, but they make my hips shake and my ribs pop. Rodrigo y Gabriel are “a Mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast, rhythmic acoustic guitars. The duo’s members are Rodrigo Sánchez, lead guitar, and Gabriela Quintero, rhythm guitar.” They’ll be performing at Bonnaroo with CUBA, a 13-piece Cuban orchestra! Man I can’t wait for this festival!
Michael Kiwanuka | ”Tell Me A Tale”
*I saw last night that Michael Kiwanuka was just added to the Bonnaroo lineup, and you can all thank me and my psychic mind for wishing this into existence. I remember the first time I heard his voice on this track and the horns, I fell in love! So pretty and sincere and so anti so much of what makes up popular r&b music today. It’s going to be so romantic listening to him live. Le sigh…
Moon Taxi | ”Gunflower”
*It’s about 8 weeks until Bonnaroo 2012, which gives me plenty of time to learn about the bands and comedians I’ve never heard of and prime myself for all the good vibes. First up, Tennessee natives Moon Taxi. Did a quickie search on Wiki and it says they’re an “indie-progressive rock” band. I don’t know what that means, but I really dig what little bit of they’re music I’ve heard and I amped to catch them live. Thank you Bonnaroo for opening my ears to this lovely gem.

If this does not move you!!! You have no Soul!!!
I remember, while applying for colleges, toying with the idea of majoring in dance therapy and music therapy and not really knowing what it was or having enough confidence to explain the interest to my folks. It made so much sense to me though, that if you couldn’t get through to people using conventional therapies, the arts seemed like an enriching and an incredibly powerful tool for breaking through to them, whether it is an autistic child, or someone suffering from trauma or an emotional disorder, or the ill and elderly. This video was so encouraging to see. The arts are important dammit!
electric wire hustle | “waters”
*intended to see electric wire hustle on wednesday, but after several too-long opening sets, they still hadn’t come on by midnight and it was a work night… we did catch a va va (three parts of recess/the clubhouse), which was a very nice treat!
