you MUST let me know how this turns out! Is it color or just the conditioner?
Hey mama! Both actually. It keeps my hair dark, so when summer comes the sun doesn’t turn my hair brown. and the conditioning is the best part. i rarely have the time to putter around for 6 hours to do this, but it turns out just how I like it every time… dark and lovely heheh :)
working on my bantu knots… pictures by morning.
what does the coffee/tea do?
Two things:
1. Henna requires an acid to get the color release going and while coffee & tea are acidic, I’ve found they aren’t nearly as harsh or drying as lemon juice (which is the generally recommended acid ingredient). ACV is pretty harsh too, but I only used a little to loosen my curl a little.
2. I have dark brown hair that lightens significantly in the summer and adding strong coffee or black tea slightly alters the color that the henna deposits so my hair gets really dark.
Here’s my favorite site on henna & hair [www.hennaforhair.com]. Enjoy!
I found this man on 7th Avenue in Park Slope. He was leaning heavily on his cane, looking down, wearing a grimaced face. I felt bad for him, so I smiled and waved when I walked past. His face changed completely. He lit up, smiled wide, and gave me a cheery greeting. There was nothing forced about it. He seemed like a man who went through life looking for the smallest excuses to be happy.
I walked 50 feet down the sidewalk, turned around, and walked back to him. “I want to take your photo,” I told him, “because of how big you smiled when I walked by.”
He said: “Well I saw someone smiling at me who I didn’t even know. So I thought: ‘By God! I Better do something!’”

Did I mention we’re going to Bonnaroo this year? Yessir!
We went to Coachella last year, fitting in a visit to my sister’s and partaking in some light sightseeing during the same trip. It was my first music festival, and with Erykah Badu, Robyn, Animal Collective and so many others I’d always wanted to see on last year’s lineup, plus the phenomenal weather and all the good vibes, it was a really fun first time!
This year’s Coachella lineup didn’t really move me—not at this year’s ticket price anyway! And while Bonnaroo will have many of the same acts as Coachella (Radiohead as a headliner, plus SBTRKT, Santigold, St. Vincent, Flying Lotus, etc.), Bonnarooa also has a gaggle of dope comedy acts, a movie festival, and a number of acts I’m so excited to finally catch (Blackstar! Bad Brains! Red Hot Chili Peppers! Feist! Eeeee…!). Also we’re close enough to Efrem’s hometown that I’ll get to see his family again and get a personal tour of Memphis. So excited! Here’s the lineup with my must-sees (bolded). Still learning about a lot of the acts. Give me recommendations, please and thanks!

If this does not move you!!! You have no Soul!!!
I remember, while applying for colleges, toying with the idea of majoring in dance therapy and music therapy and not really knowing what it was or having enough confidence to explain the interest to my folks. It made so much sense to me though, that if you couldn’t get through to people using conventional therapies, the arts seemed like an enriching and an incredibly powerful tool for breaking through to them, whether it is an autistic child, or someone suffering from trauma or an emotional disorder, or the ill and elderly. This video was so encouraging to see. The arts are important dammit!
